Stefan Sagmeister @ The Design Museum

So I worked all day in the Lazarides gallery (Steve used to be managing Banksy and has now setup his own gallery in the middle of Charing X Road) and the day before and then I had to rush off to Tower Bridge to shoot Stefan Sagmeister, I only peeked at his work quickly through wikipedia and was impressed with what he has done (working with Lou reed, Rolling Stones and David Byrne for instance). He has just published a book of all his recent work which is stunning.
When I arrived he was in the middle of doing a quick interview and shortly after that I got him all to myself. As he is Austrian I spoke to him in German and that went ok-ish (it’s way too rusty), I sometimes had to fall back on to English but it did not really matter.
I also spent some real time talking and then shooting instead of bashing off 10 frames I actually struck a conversation and took the shots in between sentences. The portraits came out great.
His talk was excellent, he started with a joke and had the crowd in the palm of his hand, the talk itself lasted about 90 minutes and it literally flew by. At the end he was signing books and the cue was 40 deep, something I had not seen there before.
He is doing these talks for three weeks all over Europe if you get the chance to see him then do go as you will not be dissapointed.

Flowers and such….

Been scanning some flowers in from last year, shows how on top of it all I am ;)
I realised I ‘reshot’ some of the same flowers in the past week or so, still I am interested how they may look. I shall scan them a bit quicker than I did this batch hehheh.

Also another shot of Karmyn Thomas (shot in August last year), a shot I sorta ‘discovered’ while going through the hard drives for a sort through. Very little photoshop on this picture btw, bit of filtering but cosmetically only little bits. Her eyes come out really striking.

There’s all kinds of stuff in the planning, not gong to jinx it by yacking way b4 it actually happens.
Especially with types like Mark Kebble, will it or wont it happen that I become the choosen one for a job at Archant, my paranoia tells me the 6 months hiatus are over soonish…..then again he could play me for yonks to come……him and the TURK.

Fun, cancelations and some flowers

Been hungover all day………………………..

Here’s Orsola De Castro’s shot used by Marie Claire’s June issue.

I was supposed to shoot some bands but nothing has come of it, either been delayed or simply no reply at all….oh well as they say. I am at The Design Museum this Friday and also the week after and I am in the planning for some fashion / beauty shoots but they are all in 4/6 weeks or so. Music stuff as well, you’ll see….

Meanwhile I have been shooting some of the flowers in our garden the past few days in the great sunny weather, although today and tomorow look rainy.

So I gave Vivienne Westwood’s portrait a miss coz it could not be guaranteed, I would have to hang for hours just to see if there was a “slot”….not my kinda thing hanging about and all that…the event itself had moved to the ground floor and it was all sold out and loads of people lahdidadidah dahlin’…………..way too complicated….

I spoke to Andrew Newton of Cat the Dog fame and the new band is rehearsing next week so….I may go and drop in and shoot a few in Brighton this coming Monday. Mexicolas are playing the Give It A Name Fest in Earls Court this Sunday which I wouldn’t mind covering. And there is Richard Sapper at The Design Museum. Could be an interesting week ahead….

Cursed & Taint @ Underworld

Last night was a great one with Cursed and Taint playing @ The Underworld. I hooked up with the Taint boys @ The Underworld from which we went for a quick Vietnamese meal on Kingsway after that hanging about, chats and whatnot. I run into Kevin Williams and Nathan Perier of Capricorns fame, I hear a snippet of their new album and it sounds big. I can’t wait to hear the whole thing, bad thing is that Capricorns as we know it is no more Nathan Bennett has decided to move to Japan, Dean Berry started a new life in Canada roughly a year ago so that’s that. Nathan Perier and Kevin Williams have started a new outfit called Alarbasta Suns.

Back to Taint who played a good solid set, 40 minutes of sheer solid rock, they played with a lot of confidence and the new songs were peformed excellent, sounded very good at the front of the gaff not so good on stage but they got a very good crowd reception. The band will be touring with Clutch again in August, will pay ‘em a visit for sure.

Taint @ Underworld

After that headliners Cursed, whose material I was not familiar with at all. Hardcore is what they do, then again there’s Sabbath, sludge, punkrock you name it….great energy as well and the crowd lapped it up like no other, slamming/banging/diving, great show glad I saw ‘em and shot ‘em ;)

Mark Kebble and that other tubby editor @ Ponytail magazine

I met Mark Kebble for a swift pint and discussed a few ideas for some future shoots, we will see if this stuff actually comes off…..what’s more important is that piss up in a few weeks time ;)
Later on I hung at Gerardo Demaio’s flat and picked up the copies of Ponytail mag and discussed shoots as well which will be done this summer for the Sept. issue (it’ll be Sept before you know it). The actual mag looked better than the dummy issue. There will be a party on the 8th @ Bistroteque lahdida dahlin’ :D
Tonight Taint @ Underworld.
