Worship @ Shoreditch Church Day 2

We had a quick dinner at one them Vietnamese places on Kingsland Rd., it was loud inside everyone was trying to talk louder than the people at the table next to them. The food itself was ok.
Then it was off again to Shoreditch Church to see An Experiment on a Bird in the Air Pump and Selfish Cunt.
I only took a few shots of An Experiment and watched for some as well. I liked their gig better than the one they did at Purple Turtle roughly 4 weeks ago.

Selfish Cunt ended the two dayer in style, I must say I couldn’t have hoped for a better setting and lighting. I took very few shots as I stood at the front for roughly three songs and then thought enough of it after the pushing and shoving. Martin Tomlinson dressed in a fatherly outfit ripped the place to shreds with his moves and rants, a pleasure. He even grabbed my lens and started pushing people, I just burst out laughing.
Thank fuck there’s still bands like this lot, there’s hope left me reckons……………

Worship @ Shoreditch Church Day 1

So…..me, the missus and Julian F. went down to Shoreditch Church to catch up on some ‘difficult’ bands/acts, must say I thoroughly enjoyed it, the music was good and the setting even better. Looking forward to tonight when Selfish Cunt and An Experiment…. are playing.

Doll and the Kicks @ Barfly

Good show, the lights in there were crap. I know what the place is capable off and it was dissapointing. Doll and the Kicks are playing one more show early April in London before kicking off on tour with Morrissey. Like the tracks they put up on MySpace as well, I think it will be a very good debut CD.

Anna Calvi @ Bardens Boudoir

I like Bardens Boudoir for the simple reason it’s just down the road from me. Sadly enough there were only 30 punters there but it did make no difference as the show was simply great. Good sound and the tracks just went down really well. I took a few but not that many as I enjoyed watching the performance.

Doll and the Kicks and Die! Die! Die!

Some shots of the Doll and The Kicks and Die! Die! Die! spreads I submitted to Random Magazine, which sadly will not get published; seems I lost out on stories on The Kooks and Arctic Monkeys…… The fact that that both bands do not have a current product out or are about to release anything seems to have eluded them….OH WELL.

White Light Parade supporting Volbeat @ Islington Academy.

It has been months (almost a year me reckons that WLP showed up in London, the last time I saw them was in June 2008 when doing the shoot for Ponytail in Leeds/Bradford.
The band has grown up by the first look of it, they have finished their album which will be released this May. They look tight and play it tight as well. I am not convinced by the brand new track, but what better place to try this out at the Islington Academy.
Overall Volbeat’s crowd show them their respect as they deserve it, good fun to watch.

I shall see them next month a couple of times and also in May so expect more pix.
Did not take any shots just went as a punter with the missus and had a good time.

Volbeat’s cockrock started to sound a little too familiar for my liking so after 4/5 songs we gave it a miss and went with Dannny Yates & Co. to the pub next door……….5 pints and I am hungover like I have had 15….I had more to drink the night before and was in a helluva better state than I am now……

DatK and Die! Die! Die!

Took a break from it all for a few hours and went shopping in the morning so there I went on me bike and cycled for 20mins only to return and thought I’d lost my keys, so I cycled all the way back and came back again to see they were just in the jeans from the night before, simply stunning………..I shall leave it at that.

Besides that I have been finilising the pix on the Doll and the Kicks and Die! Die! Die! shoots for Random mag, of which I shall post a few later on.

I am supposed to shoot a big fashion designer this week………..we’ll see.

Doll and the Kicks @ Stay Beautiful, Purple Turtle

Funny how things go…

First of all I emailed with Andrew Wilson of Die! Die! Die!, as the band is about to return to the UK and he claims I will see and hear a different band, especially when he and Mikey claim to be sober and will stick to plans, ha ha ha ha I believe it when I see it……actually I am looking forward shooting them again and see them destroy the UK.

Last night went to see Doll and the Kicks at The Purple Turtle with the missus. I did a bandshot which did not turn out the way I wanted, the black ceiling prevented me from doing it the way I wanted to do it light wise. That’s it when it comes to confined places……
I decided to hang until they went on, and got some nice stuff while doing that, it’s best when I am ignored. Last night fatre coming home and looking at the stuff I thought I had barely anything worthwhile and that is because of the lights, and I will have to tell you that I do not fancy shooting with LED lighting at all, my usual techniques do not fare well by it and I had to go back to playing it safe with a direct flash.
I thought it was a good gig granted, sound wise here and there it could have been better but the crowd lapped it up and gave a good response.

Bath & Joana and the Wolf gallery

Went to Bath for the weekend, and must say it was just great. My first time, and if it’s up to me then I am going back there a.s.a.p. :)
Old pal Dan Perry and his missus Jules were getting married, Dan and I go back to the days when the Strong Rooms on Curtain Rd was the place to be, and I am talking more than ten years ago when Shoreditch was hip instead of the bloated pig it is now, another Portobello to be exact.
I had a real blast meeting old friends and doing a job at the same time, I normally do not do weddings, as I rather join the festivities myself ;) But I did get my fair share in the evening.
We stayed at The Bath House, a boutique B&B, excellent room with a great breakfast and superb service.
I had a good laugh and took some pleasing pix, I shall post afew shortly.
