Die! Die! Die! arrived on Thursday and I met up with them shortly after getting dropped off. We meet and greet and retire to the pub (The Lord Stanley) where we down a few and then go back to the flat they are staying at, we are treated to a superb dinner and chat some more; they have written 18 songs for their third album and are looking to record either here opr back home. As a matter of fact a lot is up in the air, we’ll see.
The lads are well tired after a 30 hour flight so I leave them to it.
They are playing the Camden Crawl tonight, I am looking forward seeing them destroy The Purple Turtle.

And here is some more Selfish Cunt from Worship a few weeks back.

Here’s a shot that has made it into a book cover to be released by Frances Lincoln Publ. during London Fashion week on September the 24th. I am pretty chuffed with this.

Hope to see Doll and the Kicks tomorrow eve. Monday to see the Bruges family and in the evening an art event.
Lots going on during Easter shame about the rain that’s predicted…….

I went to the Jazz Cafe in Camden on Thursday eve. I had not been there in years when I did a shoot on a band called Faze Action for a magazine I can not remember the name off.
I was given a pass and told I had three songs with flash and I was not allowed to shoot from upstairs, I can understand the from upstairs bit as the flash may be a pain to deal with from the artist point of view but then again jazz people can be rather a handfull to deal with….
The three songs rubbish still gets me after all these years and I did not comply with it but then again I barely used my flash so I went by pretty undetected. The place was rammed, too many people if you ask me. I did not go to the front as I did not want to block the view for everyone (I tend to do that….
) But people were still moaning when I shot from the back, old people who go to a gig once a year and moan when they stand in the back and can’t see, yeah no shit Sherlock……
Anyway, the gig was great, it sounded very clear and Anna Calvi got a tremendous response from the crowd. I think she may have gained a few new fans.
Light wise a static affair with barely any changes and it was tough to do so, it’s blur galore. I think I can use these shots sandwiched with other more clearer pix of them, at some point you’ll see what I have been playing with.
I did not see the entire show, I left after 5 songs coz I did not want to be in the place any longer, you are more or less expected to stand still don’t say a word and listen……fair play but I have a job to do….
I am lucky to have some shots.
I saw Michael Czerwinski at the Design Museum the next day and found out that there is a major series of events going on from June until Sept with about ten dates of speakers in that period.
Then there is the Hussein Chalayan talk on the 17th which ought to be great fun, and the event is sold out, as was to be expected.
Also been exchanging more mails with Andrew Wilson of Die! Die! Die! who are coming over in about 2,5 weeks.
I am looking forward hanging & shooting with them.
Here’s Anna Calvi:
